In this project, 'Characters', we have been given the theme of recycling to use that we are then going to incorporate into our characters throughout the weeks. In this task, I have been asked to reference a film, literature, illustration, Artist or a designer, game and an animation that uses features of recycling/junk in it.
The first film that popped into my head was the most obvious one, Wall-e. I chose this film as my first option because his house is full of things that he has found laying around and he has put a very good use to it all. He survives by recycling all of the rubbish around him. This could also be linked into animation.
Another film I have been looking at is I Am Legend, I thought that the fact that he goes through other peoples houses and uses things that they left behind could be thought of as recycling, obviously he has no other choice to do so because he is the only one in New York, but I think it fits in nicely.
Edward Scissorhands. Edward scissorhands is a film by Tim Burton, An inventor making a man from scratch, scissors for hands, Edward may be incomplete but he is made out of scrap metal, and random things, etc. Speaking of Tim Burton, The Nightmare Before Christmas could be used, the character Sally is a doll (I think?) but she is made from different parts of materials.
Artists:
There are lots of artists that use Recycled materials on their work, but one that stood out to me most is Katherine Harvey and her fountain made of empty bottles/cups. she also makes sculptures of birds she uses simple materials and methods to create a very powerful effect on her artwork, she says that she simply uses wire (no solder or anything else) She just binds it all together with her hands.
David Edgar is a good Recycling artist to look at, his work is always brightly colored and fun to look at. He has made a 'Plastiquarium' made up of fish, jellyfish and other sea creatures fashioned from different bottles, boxes, and plastics. for most of his pieces he uses no more than simple pair of scissors.
On Deviantart, there are a lot of artists that use recycling, I have yet to find out the name of the artist, but they have used cans and metal to make a flower look more colorful.
Games:
The game that I have looked into that uses recycling is Modern Warfare 3, I would class it as recycling because they have used parts of buildings from other games, which lots of people seem to be rather cross about. Using things from other games in different ones could be thought of as virtual recycling? I don't really play games like this, so I'm clueless but from my research this is what I've found.
Borderlands also uses recycling (I think) In the game, while playing I realized it looked like the buildings had been recycled. It is also set in a junkyard. meaning yes of course it would look like it is recycled. Different pieces of scrap and mechanical devices make up the map. There are also robots in borderlands, the one you meet first is CL4P - TP.
Samorost! (on the right) From the last project (the samorost task given to us) I have remembered how it looked like the items in it had been recycled. For example, the rocket that you use to get to the other part of the game (the puzzle island) It looks like a can of some sort that had been transformed into a vehicle.

Illustration(s):
I'm still not too sure what is meant by the illustration part of this task, so I have decided to research what I think It would mean. I have found one piece on deviantart by "~AlisZombie" It looks like a lot of recycled dolls and kids toys and it has created a rather scary looking new
Animations:
There aren't many animations that I have found that relate to Recycling, but there is one that is quite fun to watch. it's called "Recycle animation" on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tV3-2pC5hU8 It basically shows what you can make when you recycle, It's interesting.
Literature:
Again, I have been browsing through Deviantart for some literature that I could use, It is a piece by "so pretty when I cry" (depressing) but here it is: http://browse.deviantart.com/literature/?q=recycle#/dgffj4 (strong language..)
